Walter Wright was the son of Mr. L. G. Wright, ‘the well-known ex-county cricketer’, and had been in the Derbyshire Yeomanry ‘for some few years’. At the time of mobilization in August 1914, he was a trooper but was rapidly promoted.
He served in Gallipoli, where he was wounded, and died as a result of his wounds at a hospital in Bristol. He was aged 24, and ‘was married (soon) after war was declared.’
1911 Census: Walter Brooks Wright was a 20 year old railway clerk, residing at 42, Derby Lane, Derby. He was the son of Levi George Wright, a railway clerk, and Agnes Harriet Wright.
